Flash: She loves me, she loves me not…

First, the positive: I’m floored by how easy it is to bring a layered Photoshop file into Flash CS3, completely in tact with editable layers. I was less than thrilled when Adobe bought Macromedia a few years back, but the results are quite promising. It’s not perfect yet, but it’ll improve, no doubt.

Second, I’m continually astounded at how difficult it can be to implement what should be a simple, straightforward piece of functionality in Flash. Example: I want this movie I’m working on to jump to the next scene if the user presses the right arrow key on the keyboard. It took me a solid 3 hours or so to figure this out, using all of their help documentation and everything. There are so many methods and functions and classes and parameters that are named very similarly, that you have to try 8 different things before you find the one you really wanted in the first place.

Anyway, we’re doing some pretty neat stuff with it. I’ll show it off when it goes live.

P.S.: I’m going to try to post more here, I promise!
